HOTEL

Set on a new developed urban area at the western entrance of the town of Vimercate (a suburban area of Milan) the new hotel structure is placed between the highway and the new main hospital of the region. The project insists on creating an intense green area on the site due to its adjacency to the green areas of the new hospital and their openair parking. The new volume stands as a kind of solitaire element hence the idea of expressing the volume as an elliptical form. Through this primary geometry the new presence sets itself as a kind of signal at the entrance of the town and as entry gate to the new important facilities and extension of the urban tissue of Vimercate; a “tower” that relates the traffic flow to the residential areas. The rooms are set on a radial disposal along the ellipse and generate a generous elliptical void in the centre taking the light from a large skylight on the roof above the lobby. The filled spaces of the rooms floorwise are interrupted on a moldular but random scheme that breaks the monotony of the primary shape that affords the spaces unexpected light reflections throughout the course of the day.
